Chelsea are exploring names in the striker position, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Thomas Tuchel has mainly prioritised strengthening his defence after losing both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, but that has not seen him overlook his attack. The Blues boss has added Raheem Sterling to his squad, and it appears that another forward could join the 27-year-old at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Who are Chelsea currently being linked with?

In terms of attackers, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one name that Chelsea are thought to be considering.

The Telegraph reported on Thursday that the west London club were set to hold talks with Barcelona over signing the former Arsenal striker.

Aubameyang only joined Barcelona in the January transfer window, but the arrival of Robert Lewandowski at the Camp Nou and the La Liga outfit's financial problems have thrown his future into doubt.

The 33-year-old made 17 league appearances for Xavi's side last season, scoring 11 goals in the process.

What has Romano said about Chelsea?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea are looking at a host of forwards but nothing is close at this moment in time.

Speaking to GMS, the Italian journalist said: "They're exploring some names but still nothing close because they're pretty happy with the players they have right now."

Who else could Chelsea target before the transfer window closes?

Aubameyang's Barcelona team-mate Memphis Depay is one other attacker who Chelsea could consider while the market is still open.

According to the Evening Standard, they have been given the chance to sign him as Barcelona look to trim their wage bill.

Depay's last spell in England did not go too well, with the Dutchman managing to score just two Premier League goals for Manchester United in 33 outings. However, he has developed into a much better forward since then, registering 76 times for Lyon before his move to the Camp Nou.

Over the last year, Depay has also ranked in the 94th percentile for shot-creating actions, the 97th for progressive carries and the 92nd for dribbles completed among his positional peers (via FBref), so Chelsea could probably do a lot worse than the Netherlands international this summer.

Whether the Blues actually make a serious move for Depay or Aubameyang remains to be seen, but the opportunity to land either player certainly seems to be there. And given the situation Barcelona are in, they could be available for a good price.
