Leeds: 20 y/o striker target would be 'cheaper' than Terrier at Elland Road

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch during Chelsea game

Leeds United signing Arnaud Kalimuendo would be a cheaper deal than buying Martin Terrier, believes Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Yorkshire club have been linked with both the Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes forwards, but Taylor thinks the former is likely to cost slightly less.

What is the latest news involving Kalimuendo and Terrier?

As per The Sun, Leeds are eyeing a £22m move for Kalimuendo as Jesse Marsch looks to add another striker option to his squad.

However, the same outlet has reported that Rennes are also interested in signing the 20-year-old this summer.

Last season, Kalimuendo scored 12 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances while on loan at Lens, a good return for a player who is still very young, so it is no surprise that he has admirers in France.

Terrier is another Ligue 1 attacker who Leeds are being linked with. L’Equipe claimed last month that the Whites were keen on bringing him to Elland Road.

What has Taylor said about Kalimuendo, Terrier and Leeds?

Taylor does not think Kalimuendo will cost as much as Terrier, with L’Equipe reporting that Rennes want at least €40m (£33.7m) for their player.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Express journalist said: “I do believe Leeds made an offer that was reported in the French media for the player, but it seems like he could stay in France with Rennes or someone like that.

“So, again, it’s just a case of if they can convince these players to join if they’ve got enough money in hand to strike deals. I think that one would be a slightly cheaper deal than Terrier, but would there have been movement on that front by now if that was a deal likely to happen? I probably think so.”

How did Terrier perform last season?

Like Kalimuendo, Terrier can also be pleased with how his 2021/22 Ligue 1 campaign went.

In 37 appearances, the Frenchman scored 21 goals to help his side to a fourth-placed finish. Over the last year, he has also ranked in the 83rd percentile for pressures, the 99th for tackles, the 91st for interceptions and the 93rd for blocks among forwards (via FBref).

Danny Mills - Leeds United

Which club did Danny Mills start his professional career at?

The above suggests he could be a good fit for Marsch’s side or any other team looking to win the ball back high up the pitch.

However, £33.7m is a lot of money to spend on a forward who could end up playing back-up to Patrick Bamford. Considering that, Leeds signing Kalimuendo is probably the more likely outcome.
