Jamaica's netball team

Jamaica celebrated a place in the netball final at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with a brilliant dance-off.

The Sunshine Girls progressed to their first major final with a semi-final victory over New Zealand, defeating the world champions 67-51.

Captain Jhaniele Fowler was the star as she scored 54 goals from 54 attempts.

Indeed, Jamaica were clinical, scoring every shot at goal they had throughout the entirety of the match.

Their historic victory fell on Jamaica’s 60th Independence Day, and the players celebrated in style.

Adean Thomas and Shamera Sterling took to the centre of the court, the latter draped in a Jamaican flag, and took part in a dance-off.

Their teammates cheered them on from the side of the court as the spectators clapped along.

Jamaica have impressed at the netball tournament at the Commonwealth Games so far, progressing to the knockout stages as Pool A winners.

They will play either England or Australia in the gold medal match tomorrow, with the remaining semi-final set to be played this afternoon.

Jamaica beat top seeds Australia earlier in the tournament, staging a dramatic comeback to triumph 57-55. Fowler was on target again, scoring 47 goals for her country.

It is not the first time there has been dancing on the netball court at the NEC in Birmingham, with Helen Housby going viral on TikTok after she was captured busting a move to Lizzo mid-match.

The 27-year-old, who helped England to a gold medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, was playing for her country during their group match against Northern Ireland.

With About Damn Time by Lizzo blaring over the speakers during a break in play, Housby was caught dancing to the song, copying a number of moves from TikTok.

She then quickly switched back to her game face as play got underway.

The video was shared on TikTok by the Commonwealth Games Federation, racking up 16.6 million views to date.
