Liverpool kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw away at Fulham on Saturday.

It was a poor result for the team from Merseyside who, despite hitting the woodwork twice, never really reached the heights many expected of them.

Meanwhile the newly-promoted Fulham put in a workmanlike display at Craven Cottage and proved great value for the draw.

How it happened

Jurgen Klopp stated after the game that "the attitude was not right in the beginning" - and he really couldn't have been anymore spot on.

For the first 15 minutes Liverpool were mauled by Fulham, who just looked to be more up for it than their competition on the day.

It was a hardly a surprise when Aleksandr Mitrovic rose high above Trent Alexander-Arnold at the far post and converted with a close range header to put the Cottagers ahead in the 32nd minute.

Liverpool, who looked shellshocked after conceding, managed to muster a bit more bite as they edged towards the break, but ultimately couldn't find anything of real substance before the half-time whistle blew.

The introduction of Nunez

Everything changed, though, when the Reds' new star forward was brought on in the 61st minute of play.

For many Kopites, it was 61 minutes too late given the clamours for him to start before the game were vast.

Add to that the shoddy performance put in by Roberto Firmino and, well, let's just say we know we don't expect Nunez to be benched again for a Premier League fixture anytime soon.

The Uruguayan's impact was nearly instant, finding space in the box and unselfishly attempting to square the ball for Mohamed Salah when he probably should have looked to shoot.

However, he put that minor misjudgement behind him by converting a Salah cross with a deft flick past the goalkeeper to level proceedings.

After Fulham regained the lead just minutes later, Nunez was again central in clawing them back in - assisting for Salah in the 82nd minute to make it 2-2.

You can view his impressive goal and assist below, as well as some more eye-opening pieces of play from the big frontman - none more so than when placed a lovely cushioned header into the path of Luis Diaz, who failed to convert the opportunity.

On a disappointing day at the office for Liverpool, Nunez is the one positive they can take from the opening day in terms of their performance.

Two competitive games in English football and he's come away with two goals.

Not to mention the couple more he could of picked up as well thanks to his outstanding positioning.

The hype might have been all Erling Haaland over the summer, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone brave enough to flaunt a Nunez fail compilation on Twitter now - this guy's the real deal.
