Kalidou Koulibaly got his Chelsea career off to a winning start on Saturday afternoon.

Koulibaly made his Premier League debut against Everton at Goodison Park.

And the Senegalese defender helped his side keep a clean sheet as they recorded a narrow victory.

The Blues won 1-0 courtesy of Jorginho's penalty in first-half stoppage-time.

Koulibaly played his part as he picked out Ben Chilwell in the box with an incisive pass.

Chilwell was felled by Abdoulaye Doucouré and Jorginho made no mistake as he coolly planted his spot-kick beyond Jordan Pickford and into the bottom corner.

As well as playing his part in the goal, Koulibaly was a rock in defence as he dealt with everything thrown at him.

He was also very assured with the ball at his feet and picked out some impressive passes during his time on the pitch.

Unfortunately, Koulibaly did not complete the 90 minutes as he was forced off with cramp late on in the game.

But it was still a dominant performance by Koulibaly, who appears to have taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Chelsea lost one of the best defenders in the world in Antonio Rudiger this summer. The German defender decided to sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The Blues chose Koulibaly as his replacement and signed him in a £33m fee.

And his performance suggests that he could well be an upgrade on the German defender.

Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin was also impressed with the Senegalese defender's display.

“Chelsea fans were worried about losing Antonio Rudiger. They’ve got Rudiger mark II, haven’t they?” Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live, per TheChelseaChronicle.

“Different players but Kalidou Koulibaly’s tackling has been excellent.”
