Arsenal target Cody Gakpo is “attainable” for the club this summer if they wanted to do a deal, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands winger has been linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s side throughout the summer, although it is now believed that Manchester United have joined the race for the 23-year-old.

What’s the latest on Gakpo?

According to the Mirror, Erik ten Hag’s side have now joined Arsenal and Leeds United in the race for Gakpo, who was named Dutch Footballer of the Year last season.

The same report states that PSV will only listen to offers for the seven-time Netherlands international once their Champions League fate has been decided, with the club facing a third-round Champions League play-off against Monaco on Tuesday night, after the first game finished in a 1-1 draw.

The Mirror also states that Gakpo has been compared to both Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry, due to his height and elegance on the ball.

And Taylor believes that a deal for the PSV man is possible for Arsenal, with the player thought to be “reasonably priced.”

What has Taylor said about Gakpo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “We know that he is attainable, because he's reasonably priced around about £30m-£35m, potentially a little bit more.

“So, if that was one Arsenal wanted to do, then there is scope to do that.

“But it's important to be clear that, at the moment, there doesn't seem to be any concrete names, unfortunately.”

Would Gakpo be a good signing for Arsenal?

At a price between £30m-£35m, Gakpo could be an extremely shrewd addition for Arteta’s side, if technical director Edu was to pursue the deal further.

The Dutchman made 27 Eredivisie appearances last season, scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists according to WhoScored, suggesting that if he could transfer that form into the Premier League, he could be a massive hit at the Emirates Stadium.

FBref states that Gakpo averaged 1.13 goals or assists per 90 minutes last season, showing that he is a regular scorer/provider of goals, something which could only complement Arsenal’s already impressive attack of Gabrielle Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus.

And an average SofaScore rating of 7.51 for his performances in the Eredivisie last season ranked him as the joint highest performer in the PSV side, alongside midfielder, Joey Veerman, suggesting that the Dutch international is ready to make the step-up to the Premier League.

For £30-£35m, it seems like Edu would be endorsing a very smart move for the north London side this season, but they will want to get a deal over the line very quickly, with Manchester United circling round the winger.
