Tottenham Hotspur could still sign an attacking midfielder and a new centre-back before the end of the summer transfer window, according to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic.

Antonio Conte has overseen a busy transfer window at Hotspur Way but more signings could still be made before the deadline, specifically in two key positions.

What is the latest Tottenham transfer news?

This summer has seen Spurs sign six new players as they prepare for the return of Champions League football in 2022-23.

More than £90 million has been splashed on recruits as the likes of Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence and Yves Bissouma join the set-up in north London.

None of the new signings were selected to start in Tottenham’s 4-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday but with four major trophies up for grabs, they will undoubtedly be of use throughout the campaign.

Champions League football has returned to north London this season and the powers that be will want to them be competitive on all fronts.

However, the Italian may not be finished in the transfer market just yet. There are reports that he would like to add a creative midfielder and a centre-back before the deadline passes.

James Maddison has previously been linked while a left-sided presence in the back-three is also desired at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What has Eccleshare said on the matter?

Eccleshare understands that an attacking midfielder and a centre-back are still on Conte’s wish list as we approach the final weeks of the season.

The former is more likely, according to The Athletic reporter, but whether either ends up materialising remains to be seen.

Eccleshare told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they may make that signing, the attacking midfielder, if the opportunity presents itself. Less likely, but possible is another center-back. I don't think Conte will perhaps want it to go down to the last day.”

Do Tottenham need any more recruits?

Spurs were in excellent form as they brushed Southampton aside on the opening day on Saturday and they had the look of a side oozing with confidence.

The fact the six current recruits were brought in with such speed gives the impression that they were the top priority signings.

It is easy to see why he desires a creative midfielder – to stop Harry Kane feeling obliged to drop deep – and a centre-back to play on the left of his three, but they will likely only be moves that materialise if the right deal presents itself.
