Jeremy Livolant scored an outrageously good 40-yard volley in a Ligue 2 fixture for Guingamp.

Livolant's Guingamp side came up against Laval in the French second division over the weekend.

Both clubs won their opening game and so headed into the clash keen to push on and seize top spot in the table.

But on a day when there was little to split the two teams, it took Livolant's truly incredible long-range volley to give Guingamp the win in the closing stages.

How it happened

After Guingamp were awarded a free-kick in their opponent's half and attempted to launch the ball over the defence, the ensuing clearance bounced perfectly in front of the awaiting Livoland.

The Frenchman stepped back and fired a speculative shot off that, to be quite honest, seemed a near impossible to ask to land in the back of the net.

But to the amazement of everybody within the stadium, as well as the helpless Laval goalkeeper, the strike sailed up and straight into the top corner of the net.

On a day when many thought Lionel Messi's bicycle-kick would set the bar as the best goal to have occurred, it turns out Livolant's stonking volley actually takes the cake.

Especially given it proved the winner as Guingamp snatched a 2-1 victory and moved to the top of the table in impressive fashion.

Not bad Livolant, not bad at all. The French winger is Guingamp through and through having come through the academy at the club and made his Ligue 1 debut way back in 2015 against Bordeaux.

Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 175 appearances for the club in which he's scored 22 goals.

None, though, will get anywhere near topping that strike, which was straight out the top draw.

Guingamp are back in action next weekend against Paris FC in the third Ligue 2 fixture of the season and after that goal, well, we expect Livolant to be the first name to feature on the team sheet.
