Arsenal signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer is still a possibility, believes Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

While Taylor had initially been told that the Gunners' had cooled their interest in the 25-year-old, it is a transfer he can still imagine happening.

What is the latest news involving Tielemans?

CaughtOffside recently reported that Arsenal still have Tielemans, who has been hailed as a "special player" by Paul Merson, on their radar at the Emirates.

In June, The Athletic claimed that the north London club's interest in the £120,000-a-week Belgian, who is now into the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium, had cooled. However, it appears that they are still eyeing him.

Manager Mikel Arteta recently hinted that his transfer business was not finished despite the Spaniard having already brought in five new recruits.

"We are going to try," the Arsenal boss recently told Sky Sports (via The Sun) when asked about making more signings. "If we can do them, great. But now it's work with the players we have, the focus should be with the players we have."

What has Taylor said about Tielemans and Arsenal?

Taylor thinks the talk about Arsenal retaining interest in Tielemans has substance and has not ruled out the possibility of technical director Edu wrapping up a deal.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Express journalist said: "Tielemans is one that still seems to have some kind of substance to it, even though I was told that Arsenal had cooled their interest. I still think that is one potentially if Arsenal wanted to do it.

"There's a possibility it could happen because of his contract situation, and Leicester obviously haven't signed a player yet."

Should Tielemans be Arsenal's priority?

It is not hard to see why Arsenal want Tielemans. He is a quality midfield player, ranking in the 85th percentile for shot-creating actions and the 89th for progressive passes among his positional peers over the last year (via FBref).

If there is a chance to snap him up, which does seem to be the case given his contract situation, then they would be wise to take it.

That being said, having signed Fabio Vieira, strengthening midfield no longer looks like it should be a priority for Arsenal. Rather, out wide is the next area Arteta surely has to address.

They are not blessed with too many quality wingers right now, hence their pursuit of Raphinha prior to his move from Leeds United to Barcelona.

Therefore, if it is a choice between Tielemans and a new wide man, then it should probably be the latter. But a club of Arsenal's wealth may very well be able to sign both before the market closes to make a good transfer window an even better one.
