England and Manchester City striker Ellen White made a surprise appearance in Germany at the weekend to show support for a special player. The Lioness flew out to Cologne for the men's Bundesliga match between FC Köln and Schalke, which happened to be the day Anthony Modeste was leaving the club.It was from the departing forward that White got the inspiration for her signature 'goggles' goal celebration.ESPN's Bundesliga reporter Archie Rhind-Tutt uploaded a photo of White at the RheinEnergieStadion wearing an FC Köln scarf at half-time. He confirmed she was there for Modeste's last day and she was presented with a shirt by the club. The Billy Goats went on to beat Schalke 3-1.After White introduced her iconic celebration at the 2019 World Cup, she revealed it was indeed inspired by Modeste — a player she greatly admires.

"I like watching the Bundesliga. I support Cologne and striker Anthony Modeste, that’s his celebration," she told Goal three years ago.

White also admitted it was in fact her husband who suggested she adopt the celebration style, which is now something she says she "can’t really stop now."

Indeed, the famous gesture has become known to England fans of all ages, with many recreating it alongside her whenever she scores.

The England international, who is the Lionesses' all-time top goalscorer, has visited Cologne and met Modeste before.

Just before the World Cup in 2019, White visited FC Köln's training ground and had an iconic photo snapped with Modeste, in which both posed with their pretend goggles.

"We just love German football and went over there on a break and loved the atmosphere and the football," she added.

Modeste has been linked with a move to fellow Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund. He departs FC Köln having scored 79 goals in 156 appearances across all competitions since he first joined in 2015. He enjoyed a two-year stint before moving to China but returned a year later to rejoin the Billy Goats.
