Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘definitely’ admire Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor when speaking to GIVEMESPORT prior to the club closing in on the signature of Goncalo Guedes.

The Midlands outfit have endured a frustrating summer in the transfer market but now appear to be making progress as they look to improve Bruno Lage’s first-team squad.

What is the latest news involving Ramos?

Portuguese reporter Bruno Andrade has previously claimed Fabio Silva’s loan switch to Anderlecht has led to Wolves reopening talks with Benfica over a potential deal for Ramos.

And Record have also stated that the talented 21-year-old has a €40 million (£34m) valuation following a promising 2021/22 campaign for his boyhood club.

However, Wolves could face stiff competition for his signature. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Paris Saint-Germain are ‘interested’ in Ramos, although they may need to offload some fringe stars before they can make a move.

The Portugal Under-21 international registered 12 goal contributions in 46 appearances last season, largely playing second-fiddle to Liverpool’s latest acquisition Darwin Nunez.

Ramos is now the main man at Benfica, though, and is already thriving under the added responsibility, racking up three goals and two assists in his opening two fixtures of 2022/23.

What has Taylor said about Ramos?

Wolves struggled to score goals last term, with only the bottom three sides in the Premier League table finding the back of the net on fewer occasions than them.

Taylor admitted that he hasn’t heard any update regarding Ramos’ future ‘at the moment’ but did confirm that he is a player on the club’s radar.

He told GiveMeSport: “No, not at the moment. PSG were looking at him as well, but we know Wolves need to sign a striker, so let's wait and see what happens. He's definitely one that's admired.”

Do Wolves need Ramos?

Wolves are closing in on the capture of Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes at this moment in time after agreeing a £27m deal with the La Liga outfit.

The 25-year-old is predominantly a winger who is also capable of playing through the middle, but with Silva now at Anderlecht, Raul Jimenez injured and Adama Traore also possible departing, another attacker will surely be on Lage’s wish list.

Hee-Chan Hwang is currently the only fit recognised senior striker on Wolves’ books due to Jimenez’s latest fitness setback and that is an issue the club’s hierarchy will perhaps be eager to address.

Only time will tell if Wolves follow up their interest in Ramos with a formal offer yet it’s a deal that many will be hoping they can get over the line before September’s deadline.
