Gary Neville was the target of chants from Manchester City fans prior to their Premier League opener against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

It's no secret that Neville and City have history.

The former right-back is a legend at Manchester United, playing 602 times for the club across a 19-year spell.

He took part in countless Manchester derbies during his time as a professional footballer and often ended up on the winning side.

Despite retiring from football in 2011, Neville is still not viewed upon very kindly by City fans.

So, when a bus full of City supporters saw Neville prior to their match against West Ham in east London, they decided to goad him.

Neville was covering City's clash with West Ham at the London Stadium for Sky Sports.

Upon seeing him making his way into the ground, City supporters repeatedly chanted from inside their bus: 'Neville is a w*****, Neville is a w******', na na na na, na na na na'.

Neville posted his reaction on social media and he took it well. The 47-year-old let out a chuckle and even joined in.

The perspective from inside the City bus has also emerged, as posted on to social media by Twitter user @Samchestock.

City went on to win the game at the London Stadium 2-0 thanks to a dominant performance by their marquee summer signing, Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian striker, signed for £51m from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, won and then converted a penalty to open the scoring for his side.

He then raced away from the defence in the second-half and coolly finished past Alphonse Areola to make the points safe for his side.

City are currently fourth as they look to retain their Premier League title. Tottenham Hotspur currently lead the way after smashing four past Southampton, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle are among the other teams that enjoyed winning starts.
