West Ham United are not ruling out a move for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

David Moyes has already added Gianluca Scamacca to his forward line, yet further additions could be made as he looks to build a squad capable of competing both domestically and across the continent.

What is the latest news involving Diaz?

A recent report from The Sun claimed that West Ham are ‘continuing to weigh up a move’ for Diaz despite sealing Scamacca’s signature.

The Chile international only has one year remaining on his current contract at Ewood Park and has reportedly been attracting admiring glances from several sides following an outstanding 2021/22 campaign.

Football League World state that Wolverhampton Wanderers have entered the race for Diaz’s signature after Raul Jimenez picked up an injury in pre-season.

Meanwhile, La Liga heavyweights Sevilla are also believed to be interested in snapping up the 6 foot 1 ace, who is valued at around £15 million by the Blackburn hierarchy.

Moyes is said to be attracted by Diaz’s ability to play on the left-wing as well as through the middle, and his versatility could see him become West Ham’s latest acquisition.

What has Jones said about Diaz?

When asked if West Ham would consider signing another forward before September’s deadline, Jones informed GiveMeSport that Diaz is ‘the one to probably look out for’.

He told GMS: “I think Brereton Diaz is the one to probably look out for. They still feel that he's offering some value.

“I know that there's interest abroad, though, for him, and he's interested in Sevilla. So, Brereton Diaz has got decisions to make himself at the moment, but West Ham are not totally ruling that idea out.”

Would Diaz be a good signing?

Diaz rose to prominence due to his impressive exploits for Chile towards the end of 2021 after he switched international allegiance to the South American nation.

And the attacker built on his success last season, registering 21 goals and three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions, leading to him being labelled “wonderful”.

A goal in Rovers’ 3-0 victory over Swansea City last time out got Diaz on the scoresheet for the first time in 2022/23 but it could be one of his final strikes for the club.

West Ham may have to move quickly if they want to fend off the competition for Diaz and bring in another attacking option capable of firing them to glory.
