Chelsea could look to entice Leicester City into selling Wesley Fofana by offering Stamford Bridge winger Callum Hudson-Odoi in a swap deal, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Blues opened the 2022/23 campaign with a narrow win over Everton, but head coach Thomas Tuchel has until September 1 to add reinforcements to his squad.

What's the latest news involving Fofana and Hudson-Odoi?

It is understood that Chelsea and Leicester are £10million apart in their valuations of Fofana, which has resulted in a move not coming to fruition so far.

The west Londoners failed with an initial £60million bid, but the central defender's current employers would reportedly find an offer worth £80million too good to turn down.

Tuchel's charges have been frustrated in their efforts to get a deal over the line, with two proposals now rejected, but Fofana has reiterated his desire to leave Leicester and Chelsea are expected to return to the negotiating table this week.

Meanwhile, Leicester and Southampton have been put on red alert after Hudson-Odoi told Chelsea he wants to secure a loan switch away from Stamford Bridge before the transfer deadline.

A move to the Bundesliga could also be on the cards as Borussia Dortmund are long-term admirers of the 21-year-old, who has made 72 Premier League appearances since coming through the Blues' ranks and is on a contract worth £120,000-per-week.

What has Dean Jones said about the situation?

Jones believes Chelsea could look to use Leicester's interest in Hudson-Odoi to their advantage as they continue to pursue Fofana.

The transfer insider feels Tuchel may offer the wide-man to Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers on a temporary basis.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "Leicester is a really interesting one, particularly with these Fofana talks ongoing.

"I do wonder whether Hudson-Odoi might end up becoming part of that agreement in some way and going to Leicester on loan.

"I think it would be a club that he could still thrive in. They haven't actually made any signings yet, but they're going to look to do that, obviously, in the last few weeks of the window."

Why are Chelsea continuing to pursue Fofana?

Fofana has made 36 Premier League appearances since joining Leicester for £36.5million in 2020, so he would not need any time adjusting to the rigours of the English top flight.

Following Chelsea's victory over Everton, Tuchel admitted that more youthful central defensive options are needed.

Fofana, who has enjoyed success at Leicester after winning the FA Cup and is still just 21, could be the perfect option for the Blues.
