Chelsea have been long-term admirers of Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham but should move for Frenkie De Jong this summer if they get the chance, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Thomas Tuchel has overseen a hectic transfer window at Stamford Bridge but the Blues could still add another big name to their side before the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest from Chelsea?

Chelsea have brought in five new signings this summer and spent over £160 million but could still recruit further ahead of the deadline.

Last week saw Marc Cucurella join Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina through the door at Stamford Bridge and now a midfielder appears to be on the agenda.

Barcelona are continuing in their attempts to off-load De Jong this summer with Manchester United long-term admirers of the Netherlands international.

However, the 25-year-old is reported to favour a move to Stamford Bridge, if he is to leave the Camp Nou, and Chelsea have now joined the race.

But with other talented midfielders on their long-term agenda, Tuchel and Todd Boehly face a conundrum.

Jones understands that both Rice and Bellingham have been admired in west London for a long time now and remain on their radar moving forward.

But this summer has presented the opportunity for Chelsea to land another talent and snatch him from under the noses of their Premier League rivals.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Declan Rice was the obvious one that we expected to happen. Jude Bellingham is one they've had their eye on for two years. But Frenkie de Jong, if he's there and available, he's as good if not better than those two guys. So why not try it?”

What should Chelsea do?

Whichever player they sign, it is likely to cost them a pretty penny and make it hard to also bring in one of the others.

Dortmund are currently demanding £101 million for Bellingham, although that is a fee that could be lower next summer, while West Ham want £150 million for Rice.

De Jong may be the cheaper option at present, with United previously agreeing a £63 million fee, but given his desire to remain in Barcelona, it may not be the right move for either party.

At just 19 years old, Bellingham would likely be the most exciting acquisition for the future.

After England’s 3-0 victory over Ivory Coast this year, Paul Ince said about the midfielder: “'He's a great prospect,' Ince said. 'He has got all the attributes you look at to be a world-class player.”
