Rafael Nadal & Iga Swiatek tipped for Olympic gold after Roland-Garros chosen as venue

Tennis fans have tipped Rafael Nadal and Iga Świątek for Olympic gold after Roland-Garros was confirmed as a venue for Paris 2024.

The site of the French Open will host the Olympic tennis tournament from July 24th to August 4th 2024.

It will be the third time in history that a Grand Slam venue has been chosen for the Olympics, with the All England Lawn Tennis Club used in 1908 and 2012.

Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Switzerland’s Belina Bencic will be the defending champions in the men’s and women’s tournaments respectively, but tennis fans have already predicted they will both be usurped in two years’ time.

In fact, they have taken to Twitter to predict Olympic glory for Nadal and Świątek, who both thrive on the clay court.

Nadal has achieved a record 14 titles at Roland-Garros, while Świątek is a two-time winner of the French Open at just 21-years-old.

“Iga & Nadal,” wrote one Twitter user. “My gold medal winners”. Another posted: “Iga Swiatek Olympic gold medalist it’s written in the stars”.

“Manifesting a gold medal for Iga,” wrote a Świątek fan, while a Nadal fan commented: “They should just hand Rafa the medal no one’s beating him here”.

Świątek is only at the start of her career, rising to world number one in March after Ashleigh Barty’s retirement.

In contrast, Nadal has defied the odds to continue playing, overcoming multiple injuries to win a record 22nd Grand Slam in June.

With fitness issues continuing to plague the 36-year-old, his participation at Paris 2024 is in doubt, particularly because he already has an Olympic gold medal from Beijing 2008.

But fans appear confident Nadal will still be playing in two years time, with one Twitter user posting: “You just know Nadal is gonna keep playing for a few more years now”.

Nadal and Świątek are currently preparing for the US Open, with the latter aiming to continue her excellent season so far.

The Polish star has won every WTA 1000 tournament she has played in this year, recording a 37-match winning streak as she triumphed in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami and Rome.

Świątek also earned her second French Open title with a victory over Coco Gauff in the final.
