Everton are looking to sign another striker in the style of Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, rather than a partner for the England international, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Frank Lampard has overseen a slow summer of business on the Blue half of Merseyside but the hunt continues for new signings ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest news from Goodison Park?

Wolves centre-back Conor Coady has completed his move to Everton on a season-long loan, adding some much-needed cover to the defence following Ben Godfrey’s injury.

Amadou Onana has also arrived to bolster the Toffees’ midfield this week but it is up-front where the biggest priorities lie.

With Richarlison sold to Tottenham and Dominic Calvert-Lewin picking up another injury, Lampard has precious few options to lead his line.

Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic is on the club’s radar, according to MailOnline. The same publication reports that both Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested in the £15 million man.

Lampard is also considering returning to his former club for recruits, with Michy Batshuayi linked with a switch from Stamford Bridge to Goodison Park.

What has Brown said on Everton’s pursuit?

Brown understands that the Toffees are on the lookout for a striker in a similar mould to Calvert-Lewin to play in his absence, rather than alongside him.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “Everton seem to be trying to sign a player who has a similar profile to Calvert-Lewin, someone who can come in and sub for him rather than play alongside him. They're looking for big, tall, rangy, threat-in-the-air centre forwards rather than someone who'd have a skill set that works alongside Calvert-Lewin.”

Would this be a smart move for Everton?

If Lampard is set on playing with one man up front and wingers on either side, then this is certainly the method the club should follow.

Standing at 6ft 7in, Kalajdzic is arguably the more appealing option and could fill the role of focal point left by Calvert-Lewin with ease, and likely better than Batshuayi.

The Austria international has scored 24 goals in 57 appearances for Stuttgart and Everton will likely be hard pushed to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature.
