Tottenham's Ryan Sessegnon worked almost the entire summer to get himself in shape for pre-season under Antonio Conte, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The 22-year-old scored his first Premier League goal for Spurs against Southampton on Saturday, and Bridge revealed the secret behind his recent transformation was training in Portugal before heading back to Hotspur Way.

What's the latest news involving Sessegnon?

It's been a difficult three years since Sessegnon made the switch across London from Fulham for £25m, but he's finally starting to make his mark under Conte.

Sessegnon started the final six Premier League games of last season and kept his place at left wing-back on the opening day despite the arrival of Ivan Perisic.

And it proved a memorable afternoon for the youngster after his header cancelled out James Ward-Prowse's opener before an own goal and goals from Eric Dier and Dejan Kulusevski secured a 4-1 win for Conte's side.

Sessegnon looked fit and stronger against the Saints and will be hoping to reap the rewards of his off-season work, after sharing various posts on his Instagram from his individual training camp over the summer months.

And Bridge revealed the ex-Fulham star worked most of the summer to improve his physical condition ahead of pre-season.

What did Bridge say about Sessegnon?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "We've already seen quotes from Sessegnon saying that Perisic speaks to him. This is a guy who's won everything at club level and has reached the World Cup final.

"We know that Sessegnon has really come on under Conte. My colleague revealed that Sessegnon didn't have a summer off, he went to Portugal and did his own training camp ahead of Camp Conte, and he's showing real professionalism."

How did Sessegnon perform against Southampton?

Sessegnon produced some impressive performances towards the end of last season, with his display at Liverpool, which included the assist for Heung Min Son's opener, and showing in the north London derby, two of his standouts.

But this was by far one of his best in a Tottenham shirt. Not only did he finally score his first league goal for the club, but he looked confident and sharp in everything he did, and was only denied a brace by the offside flag, having expertly curled home at the beginning of the second half.

Sessegnon lasted 66 minutes before he was replaced by Perisic, although his withdrawal was probably more down to the fact he was on a yellow card, which didn't overshadow a satisfying afternoon for the left wing-back.
