Chelsea kicked off their 2022/23 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Everton.

Thomas Tuchel's side were woeful at times during pre-season, but were able to deliver the goods on Merseyside last Saturday.

The Blues were certainly aided by the fact that Frank Lampard had to field an injury-depleted XI at Goodison Park, but a win is still a win.

Jorginho bagged the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in first half stoppage-time after Ben Chilwell was fouled in the box.

But while the Italian proved to be Chelsea's match-winner on the day, one fan has raised concerns over the midfielder's ability after a snippet of action involving him and teammate Raheem Sterling.

Towards the end of the first half, Sterling made one of his trademark runs in behind the opposition's defence while Jorginho was in acres of space by the centre circle.

However, despite the fact he had more than enough time on his hands, the former Napoli man didn't even attempt the pass.

Instead, Jorginho turned back and offloaded the ball to midfield partner, N'Golo Kante.

Interesting.

Had it been Sterling's former teammate Kevin De Bruyne on the ball in that position, you feel a pass in behind the Everton defence would have at least been attempted.

The Belgian playmaker assisted Sterling on numerous occasions during their trophy-laden time together at Manchester City.

Sadly, De Bruynes do not grow on trees and the English winger is simply going to have to accept that fact now he's at Chelsea.

And it has to be said, it would have required some serious skill to play in Sterling from Jorginho's position against Everton.

The pass would have had to be perfect in every single way, from the trajectory to the weight of it.

Even a player like De Bruyne would have struggled to pull it off, so it's hard to feel too sorry for Sterling on this occasion.

The 27-year-old will be desperate to get off the mark in Chelsea colours during the team's next match against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Sterling bagged his first goal for the Blues during a pre-season victory against Udinese and he's looked sharp ever since he made the move from City this summer.

At £45 million, he will likely prove to be a superb piece of business by Chelsea in the long-run.
