Alexis Sanchez will be playing his football in Ligue 1 next season.

The Chilean international and Inter Milan mutually agreed to terminate his contract, which has allowed him to complete a free transfer to Marseille.

Sanchez spent two years on Inter's books after joining the club from Manchester United on a permanent basis in 2020.

The 33-year-old forward played 108 times for the Italian outfit in total, scoring 20 goals, contributing 23 assists and winning three trophies - including the 2020/21 Serie A title.

So, it's yet another new chapter in Sanchez's already eventful career and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in France.

He's a pale shadow of the player we previously saw light up the Premier League in an Arsenal shirt, but is still capable of producing moments of bona fide magic.

Sanchez also remains one of the biggest names in football, which is why Marseille fans are so excited to have him on board.

The South American superstar arrived in the city on Tuesday and he received a hero's welcome.

It wasn't quite Paulo Dybala's epic unveiling as an AS Roma player, but the scenes in Marseille were still pretty special.

The fans who turned up to greet Sanchez couldn't contain their excitement, as you'll see for yourself in the video below.

To say their happy with their team's latest acquisition would be a serious understatement.

Things almost went wrong during Sanchez's first meeting with his new club's fans, though.

Chile's record goalscorer very nearly injured himself while interacting with the supporters. He was inches away from slipping over on one of the many projectiles laying on the ground, but just about managed to avoid falling over.

A security guard then charged over to make sure Sanchez was indeed okay...

Yeah, that could have ended quite badly.

Sanchez, who's been plagued with injury problems in recent years, was close to a spell on Marseille's treatment table before even kicking a ball for the club.

But thankfully that's not ended up being the case and he'll instead be eyeing up an appearance in the team's Ligue 1 opener at home against Brest on Sunday evening.

If Sanchez hits the ground running and strikes up a good on-field partnership with the talismanic figure of Dimitri Payet, Marseille could be quite the force in 2022/23.
