Conor Benn has stated that he believes he will be the first man to finish Chris Eubank Jr in his pro career.

After a great deal of speculation and months of uncertainty, it’s finally been confirmed that Conor Benn will fight Chris Eubank Jr later this year.

The pair will meet on October 8 at the O2 Arena, 32 years on from when their fathers first went head to head inside the squared circle.

This kind of generational feud doesn’t exactly come around all too often and many fans felt as if it would never happen. Alas, we’ve arrived at the golden gates, and we’re now less than two months away from what promises to be one hell of a night in the capital.

The contest will be fought at a catchweight with Benn going up and Eubank Jr coming down, leading a lot of pundits to believe Conor is biting off more than he can chew.

Of course, we all know the 25-year-old doesn’t walk away from a challenge, as was so often the case with his dad Nigel.

Benn is 21-0 in his pro career whereas Eubank Jr is 32-2, with both of his losses coming via decision.

During an exclusive interview with Matchroom Boxing, Benn seemed more motivated than he ever has been before to go in there and make a statement.

“I’m confident in beating any man. I work hard enough, I know what I’m made of, I know what I can do. Whoever it is. I do what I’m supposed to do and more. It’s not just about beating someone, it’s how you look beating someone. You can’t take away from the victories I’ve had.”

Benn was then outright asked whether or not he believes he can be the first man to finish Eubank Jr.

“I do. I do. Call me delusional, call me very confident, call me what you want. I believe I can be the first man to stop Chris.”

The old enemy

In November 1990, Nigel Benn lost the WBO middleweight title after being finished by Chris Eubank at the NEC in Birmingham.

Three years later on October 9, 1993 we got the chance to see the rematch at Old Trafford, with the end result being a split decision draw.

Can Conor Benn finally get the win his family have been seeking for decades? Only time will tell.
