Rangers signing Tottenham star Harry Winks would be a "real coup" for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The England international doesn't have a future in north London and has been linked with various clubs this window, including the reigning Scottish FA Cup winners.

After being left out of Spurs' pre-season tour of South Korea last month, The Athletic claimed that Winks was up for sale this summer, with Tottenham boss Antonio Conte only interested in working with players who are part of his plans.

That came after 90min reported that Rangers had been offered the chance to sign Winks, who's also attracting interest from Premier League sides Brentford, Crystal Palace, Everton, Leicester, and Wolves.

Winks, who earns £91,000 per-week, was left out of Spurs' opening day game with Southampton but has racked up 202 appearances for his boyhood club, 43 of which have come in various European competitions.

But he's fallen down the pecking order in recent years, starting just 18 league matches since the beginning of the 2020-2021, which could ultimately led to his Tottenham exit.

What did O'Rourke say about Winks?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "If Rangers were to land Harry Winks it would be a real coup and getting into the Champions League could be pretty key to signing someone like him. We all know that Tottenham are open to offers, but if he was to be sold on a permanent basis, it would be for a big price tag, which might be out of Rangers' reach."

Why do Rangers want Winks?

Despite his downfall at Tottenham in recent years, Winks remains a classy operator at Premier League level, highlighted by the calibre of sides interested in his services, and would therefore be an outstanding addition for Van Bronckhorst.

He's also been a regular in the England squad over the years, scoring once in 10 games for Gareth Southgate's side, although his last cap was back in November 2020.

Once compared by Mauricio Pochettino to Xavi and Andreas Iniesta, Winks offers a calmness in midfield, epitomised by his impressive passing success rate of 88.2 per cent in the top-flight last season, which was the fifth-best in the Spurs squad.

And while Winks' attacking output is virtually non-existent, with just five goals and six assists in 202 games for the north Londoners, his quality would surely be impossible for Van Bronckhorst to turn down.
