Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren has 'recommended' Celtic full-back Josip Juranovic to Erik ten Hag as he continues to stamp his authority at Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

McClaren was added to ten Hag's backroom staff in May and it appears the former England boss is playing a key role in identifying potential fresh faces.

What's the latest news involving Juranovic?

It is understood that Juranovic has been added to Manchester United's shortlist of transfer targets as ten Hag attempts to discover a solution to his right-back problems.

The 26-year-old only made the move to Celtic 12 months ago, with him sealing a £2.5million switch from Legia Warsaw.

But, having played a key role in the Bhoys clinching the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish League Cup last season, the Glasgow giants are looking to secure a significantly higher fee than they forked out.

According to 90min, Celtic would consider selling Juranovic, but they would demand more than £15million to green-light a deal.

The report suggests Manchester United are not the 20-cap Croatia international's only suitors as Chelsea and Atletico Madrid also hold an interest.

What has Dean Jones said about Juranovic?

Jones understands that McClaren, who previously worked under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, is playing a key role in Manchester United's pursuit of Juranovic.

The transfer insider believes ten Hag has been alerted to the right-back thanks to his assistant coach.

When asked about McClaren's involvement in Manchester United's Juranovic interest, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "Interestingly, I'm told that he's playing a part in this guy.

"He's recommended him and it feels like he's a player that would fit in well, so I do think there's reason to take that rumour seriously."

Why has Juranovic been identified as a target?

Ten Hag has spent more than £65million on strengthening the squad he inherited, but Manchester United's defensive problems remain.

That became clear as the Red Devils suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on the opening day of the season.

Diogo Dalot featured at right-back against the Seagulls, while Manchester United are open to offers for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Crystal Palace are interested in signing the 24-year-old on loan, but they have yet to make a move ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.

Juranovic, who has started both of Celtic's fixtures so far this season, could prove to be an upgrade on Dalot and Wan-Bissaka as ten Hag continues to seek reinforcements at Old Trafford.
