West Ham United have enquired three times as to the availability of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher so far this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

David Moyes is in the process of adding the final touches to his squad and there remains work to do at the London Stadium ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest news on Gallagher?

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season last term after being loaned out to join Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace side, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 34 Premier League appearances.

Gallagher is now attempting to prove to Thomas Tuchel that he can produce for Chelsea this term, coming off the bench against Everton on Saturday, and his manager is insistent that he will stay at Stamford Bridge.

But that has not stopped clubs from showing interest. According to a report from 90Min, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle have all also made enquiries about the Cobham academy graduate.

The Eagles hope that the prospect of playing himself into Gareth Southgate’s World Cup plans will prove tempting enough for Gallagher to return, but the Hammers are not going anywhere yet.

What has Jones said on their plans?

Jones understands that West Ham have already enquired three times about the availability of Gallagher, to make sure Chelsea’s stance has not changed.

The transfer insider also insists that there is plenty of work for the Hammers to do and that they will remain active in the window.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Conor Gallagher is a player they've asked about three times so far this summer, just to keep tabs on it more than anything.

“They're just making sure that, as we go through the summer, Chelsea haven't changed their mind on his stance. There's still a possibility they do and they want to be in that conversation. So, they’ve got quite a bit of work to do still, West Ham. They're definitely not finished.”

Would Gallagher be a good signing for West Ham?

Undoubtedly. The midfielder showed how much he can improve a side last term when his energy and positivity helped reshape Palace’s style of play.

While Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek have formed a solid partnership at the London Stadium under Moyes, there are no proven options beyond the duo.

Gallagher may still only be 22, but he has already notched 65 Premier League appearances so would arrive with a wealth of experience to ensure the Hammers can compete domestically and in Europe this season.

However, Chelsea reportedly value the player at £50 million and it is unlikely West Ham would be willing to match that price for a permanent deal.
