Tottenham: 36-cap star 'most likely on bench' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte

Tottenham forward Richarlison is likely to be on the bench for the trip to Chelsea this afternoon, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The £60m summer signing missed the victory over Southampton due to suspension, but the 36-cap Brazil international is back available having served a one-match ban last weekend.

What’s the latest news involving Richarlison?

It was the perfect start to the Premier League season for Spurs, with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Dejan Kulusevski and an own goal sending them top of the table at the end of the first round of fixtures.

But while there was a partisan atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Richarlison would have surely been watching on from the sidelines slightly frustrated.

The ex-Everton star was suspended for throwing a firework back into the crowd in a game against Chelsea last term, meaning he missed out on the chance to make his debut in front of his new fans.

What year was the club founded?

Richarlison will be looking to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, but Bridge doesn’t expect Antonio Conte to make any changes, which means the 25-year-old will have to settle for a place amongst the substitutes.

What did Bridge say about Richarlison?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Does Kulusevski start on Sunday? Yes. And Richarlison will most likely be on the bench because why would you change a team that won 4-1 on the opening day.

“Richarlison is not going to knock on Conte’s door and say, ‘you bought me for £60m, I should be playing,’ he’s not going to do that.”

Should Conte make any changes?

After the impressive showing against Saints, there isn’t much need to shuffle his pack for the visit to his former side.

Conte could opt to bring in Matt Doherty for Emerson Royal to improve Tottenham’s attacking output down the right, but the Brazilian did himself justice on the opening day, claiming an assist and forcing the own goal.

Another potential change could see Yves Bissouma make his full debut in place of one of Rodrigo Bentancur or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but those two formed a solid partnership and there’s no need to break them up.

Therefore, it’s all shaping up for Conte to stick with the same team that started against Southampton, with the likes of Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, Bissouma and co. likely to have to make a difference from the bench.
