Leeds United could look to tie up a deal for Southampton striker Che Adams after the Elland Road outfit go head-to-head with his current employers this weekend, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Whites got their season off to an impressive start as they came from behind to see off Wolverhampton Wanderers and head coach Jesse Marsch will be eager to clinch back-to-back wins when his side make the trip to Southampton on Saturday.

According to The Sun, Leeds are lining up a move for Adams and hoping to secure the frontman's services for £10million.

The report suggests that Southampton are looking to secure a higher fee for the 19-cap Scotland international, but there is optimism that a compromise figure can be reached.

However, Leeds are not the only Premier League club eager to strike a deal as Everton have already made a move and it is understood that Adams is interested in heading to Goodison Park.

Wolves and newly-promoted Nottingham Forest are also reportedly among the 26-year-old's suitors, meaning Marsch will have to move fast if he wants to win the race for his target's signature.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is willing to offload Adams ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.

What has Dean Jones said about Adams?

Jones believes Leeds could have stolen a march on other interested clubs by agreeing a deal before facing Adams' current club Southampton.

But, with the Whites at St Mary's this weekend, the transfer insider is expecting negotiations to be held after the Premier League clash.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "They could always put a deal in place and he's not allowed to play against them but, ultimately, I think it makes sense to drag that out beyond this week.

"It doesn't help anybody to have a situation like that lingering over a fixture, so I can totally see that being the case."

Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that he believes Adams would be 'a good fit' for Marsch's Leeds side.

He would certainly tick the box of boasting Premier League experience, having made 96 appearances and racked up 31 goal contributions in the competition.

Statistics show that Adams was in the 96th percentile for the percentage of shots on target among strikers in the top flight last season, emphasising that he is capable of being a serious danger in the final third of the pitch.
