Barcelona have been very active in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Despite their well-known financial issues, the Catalan club have brought in a host of new signings.

Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen were both acquired on free transfers, while Barcelona splashed the cash on Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde - around £137 million in total according to Transfermarkt.

As well as bolstering the squad in a time where various 'financial levers' are having to be activated to even register players, Barcelona saw fit to hand Ousmane Dembele a lucrative new contract.

The Frenchman's previous deal expired at the end of 2021/22, but Xavi Hernandez was eager to keep him at the club after his impressive form towards the end of last season.

And Barcelona certainly didn't pull any punches in their successful bid to re-sign Dembele.

Some of the details in the former Borussia Dortmund man's new two-year contract have been leaked and the numbers are absolutely wild.

The numbers behind Dembele's new Barcelona contract

Per Catalan publication Sport, Dembele can pocket around £17 million per year in wages.

He will earn a minimum (yes, a MINIMUM) of £13.5 million gross annually and has a further £3.4 million available to him in bonuses.

But that's not the craziest part, far from it in fact.

As well as pocketing a salary that's up there with the largest in world football, Dembele will be handed 50% of any future transfer fee while he's on the club's books.

So theoretically, if the 25-year-old were to jump ship next summer for a fee of £42 million - which is what his release clause is set at - an extra £21 million would appear in his bank account.

Madness, right? It's no wonder Barcelona are struggling financially.

The clause focused on a future transfer fee may very well tempt Dembele to seek a move elsewhere next summer, particularly if he smashes it in 2022/23 and has suitors lining up to acquire his signature.

It will be interesting to see whether Dembele is actually an automatic starter this season, given the wealth of options available to Xavi in attack.

Raphinha, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres are the four other options available to the Barcelona manager in the wide areas.

Xavi really is spoilt for choice and he faces a tough task keeping all five of the players mentioned above happy throughout the course of the campaign.
