Manchester United target Josip Juranovic is a ‘very real option’ for the club this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have been linked with a surprise move for the Celtic defender in recent days as Erik ten Hag looks to continue the rebuild of his defence following the signings of Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.

What is the latest news involving Juranovic?

A recent report from the Daily Mail has claimed that Juranovic has come onto United’s radar as Ten Hag aims to add another right-back to his first-team squad.

It’s believed that the Old Trafford outfit are now giving serious consideration to launching a move for the Croatia international, who is likely to cost in excess of £15 million and still has four years remaining on his current contract.

Back in June, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Juranovic was ‘expected to leave’ Celtic before the window shuts on September 1 following an impressive maiden campaign.

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas then claimed that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are interested in the versatile full-back, meaning it could be a hotly contested tussle for his signature.

United’s move could hinge on Aaron Wan-Bissaka finding a new club, though, with the 24-year-old not thought to be part of Ten Hag’s long-term plans.

What has Jones said about Juranovic?

Chelsea were also said to be keen on Juranovic before Cesar Azpilicueta put pen to paper on fresh terms, ending any speculation over where he will be plying his trade in 2022/23.

But Jones has informed GiveMeSport that the 26-year-old is on United’s wish list, meaning a formal offer could imminently arrive at Celtic’s door.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “This is an interesting one, actually. I was speaking to someone about this last night, and he is actually a very real option.”

Would Juranovic be a good signing?

Juranovic quickly established himself as one of the standout full-backs in Scottish football following his arrival from Legia Warsaw last August, racking up seven goal contributions in 35 appearances.

As per WhoScored, the 5 foot 8 ace averaged 1.4 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.5 clearances and 1.2 crosses per league game throughout 2021/22, placing him in the top five for each metric amongst his teammates.

Juranovic’s representatives have reportedly informed the Celtic hierarchy in the past that their client is happy to remain at the club, but it remains to be seen if an offer too good to turn down from United arrives.
