Singing âSweet Carolineâ after winning the Euros is one thing ââ singing it in front of your new German teammates is a whole different story. Few would dare to sing one of the tunes most synonymous with English football in front of a crowd of players still reeling from their defeat at Wembley last month. Yet, thatâs exactly what Lionesses hero Georgia Stanway did during her initiation for Bayern Munich. The Lionesses' hero joined the German side from Manchester City earlier this summer and showed no fear in belting out a rendition of the hit Neil Diamond song. Bayernâs team features a number of stars that featured for Germany in the Euro 2022 final, including, Klara Bühl, Lea Schüller and Lina Magull. SHOP OUR LEAH WILLIAMSON T-SHIRT TO CELEBRATE ENGLANDâS EURO 2022 WINTo be fair to the German players, they appeared to enjoy Stanwayâs singing, as they were filmed happily clapping along to the tune. Check out Stanwayâs initiation for yourselves below.Â
Fans react to Stanwayâs âbraveâ song choice
After the official FC Bayern Frauen Twitter account shared footage of Stanway, the midfielder was quick to react.
âIt could only be one song,â she replied.
Meanwhile, Stanwayâs England teammate Beth Mead, who was named the Player of the Tournament at Euro 2022, wrote: âGwarnnnn G,â followed by two clapping emojis.Â
Others also stressed how the Lionesses midfielder was incredibly âbraveâ with her song choice.Â
âThat was very brave, but I would sleep with one eye open,â said one fan.
âIn front of the German players as well. Savage from Stanway there tbf,â stressed another.
âAbsolutely savage,â wrote a third.Â
There were plenty of Tweets expressing their admiration for Stanway as well.
âI love this girl with all my heart,â emphasised one fan.
Another echoed this sentiment and said: âSheâs a hero,â
âWhat a legend,â added a third.
Who is Stanway?
Stanway has joined Bayern after playing for Man City since 2015.
The 23-year-old is the Manchester clubâs record goalscorer, having scored more than 50 goals over the course of seven seasons.
Her honours include one Womenâs Super League title, three Womenâs FA Cup triumphs and three League Cups.Â
Individually, Stanway was named the PFA Womenâs Young Player of the Year in the 20118-19 season and was nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2016.
Stanway has also made 40 appearances for England and scored 11 goals.
Her most notable goal came during the Euro 2022 quarter-final earlier this summer when she scored the winner in extra-time against Spain.
