Henry, Shearer, Gerrard: Premier League all-time XI voted for by 200,000 fans

A staggering 200,000 fans have voted for their all time Premier League XI and the results are fascinating.

On the 30th anniversary of the Premier League, BT Sport decided to attempt to get a definitive answer to the age-old debate – naming the ultimate Premier League team.

It’s probably the most hotly contested and controversial topic you could ever wish to answer.

With fans unable to set their blind love aside for the legends that represented their clubs and in doing so, won their hearts forever.

Yep, Liverpool fans will always say Steven Gerrard was better than Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes.

Whilst Chelsea fans will forever claim that John Terry was a better centre back than Rio Ferdinand.

And settling those kinds of debates is one element in answering this riddle. However, modern heroes like Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Virgil van Dijk now ask an entirely different question.

Is it possible they’ve surpassed some of the icons that went before them?

Well, buckle in because this might be the most well voted ultimate Premier League team ever and it provides some eye-opening insight into fan perception.

In goal we have Peter Schmeichel – a fair pick. Petr Cech arguably ran him close but you won’t find too many people contesting that selection.

Gary Neville takes the right-back slot, although certainly not for his ability and you guarantee it’s more his longevity that gets him over the line compared to someone like Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Rio Ferdinand and Virgil van Dijk seize the centre back positions which is bound to get the hairs of Chelsea fans across the nation standing on end.

However, the obvious inclusion of Ashley Cole at left-back may help to remedy that slightly.

The midfield will likely again stir controversy as Gerrard beats both Lampard and Scholes to the team.

What’s even more interesting is that in the absence of both of the previously mentioned Premier League legends, Patrick Vieira and Manchester City’s modern star De Bruyne make the grade.

In the attack, Salah solidifies the modern era’s impression on Premier League history and becomes the third current player to make the team.
