Chelsea will make a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and could bid for him soon, believes transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Barcelona striker is being heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge, where he could reunite with his former manager Thomas Tuchel.

What is the latest news involving Aubameyang?

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are set to ramp up their interest in Aubameyang.

The newspaper states that Barcelona value the 33-year-old at £21m and the west London club are prepared to pay half of that.

While Tuchel did not confirm Chelsea's interest in Aubameyang, the Blues boss only had good things to say when discussing his former Borussia Dortmund player on Friday.

"I enjoyed working with him a lot," Tuchel said. "It was a pleasure. Some players stay your players because you work very very close, Auba is one of these players. We had a very close relationship."

What has Jones said about Aubameyang to Chelsea?

Jones expects Todd Boehly to make a real attempt to sign Aubameyang before the transfer window closes.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I think Chelsea will give this a try. I think they'll do it pretty soon as well. They'll gauge it and they'll make an offer, and I think they'll just really want to do that to see whether this is a dead end or if there is room for negotiation to actually sign Aubameyang."

Should Chelsea sign Aubameyang?

If there is a chance to, then why not? Aubameyang obviously had some issues towards the end of his Arsenal career, losing the captaincy under Mikel Arteta, but it is clear that he enjoys a very healthy relationship with Tuchel.

Most importantly, though, he has performed for the German. 79 of his 299 senior goals have come under Tuchel.

Having scored 23 goals fewer than Manchester City and 18 fewer than Liverpool last season (via WhoScored), it is easy to see that Chelsea need more firepower if they are to close the gap between themselves and the Premier League's top two teams.

They have also lost Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku, who have returned to RB Leipzig and Inter Milan respectively, so the arrival of a new forward is probably more than necessary at this point.

When you consider all of the above, Chelsea bringing in Aubameyang this summer makes a lot of sense. He is a proven goalscorer who Tuchel quite clearly trusts.
