BoxRec have created a list of their top heavyweights in the history of boxing and we thought now would be the right time to take a dive into their top 15.

Why you ask? Well, earlier this week, Tyson Fury announced his retirement from the sport. Yes we know, he probably will end up fighting again, but we have to take his word for it.

The Gypsy King announced his retirement after defeating Dillian Whyte at Wembley back in April. However, he has since teased fans of a potential return to the ring.

With that being said, it looks as if Fury may have called it quits once and for all.

After many sensational fights throughout his career, Fury has been placed within BoxRec’s top 15 heavyweights of all time.

The likes of Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis all feature.

Here are BoxRec’s official top 15 heavyweights of all time.

With a professional record of 50-6-2, Mike Tyson was a true icon of the sport. In his prime, he defeated the likes of Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks and Frank Bruno.

During his career, Joe Frazier was involved in many iconic fights, including the showdown against Muhammad Ali. It’s fair to say that he deserves to be in the top 15.

The likes of George Foreman, Jersey Joe Walcott and Larry Holmes all enjoyed glittering careers as well, but just miss out on featuring in the top 10, which is where we'll head to next!

6. Evander Holyfield

After defeating the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte, Fury has earned himself a spot in the top 10.

Making his professional debut in 1953, Sonny Liston would go on to enjoy a sensational career, fighting over 50 times.

Gene Tunney, throughout his professional career, opted to tactically outbox his opponents instead of looking for an immediate KO.

Wladimir Klitschko thoroughly deserves to be ranked amongst the best of all time as the Ukrainian was unbeatable during his prime.

5. Rocky Marciano

4. Floyd Patterson

3. Lennox Lewis

2. Joe Louis

1. Muhammad Ali

The top five feature several wonderful athletes. Both Rocky Marciano and Floyd Patterson were a joy to watch.

Lennox Lewis is arguably one of the most iconic British heavyweight boxers of all time. With a record of 66-3, Joe Louis will go down as a true icon of the sport.

However, lying at number one is a true pioneer of boxing in Muhammad Ali. He changed the sport and was a well-loved figure during the peak of his powers.
