Man Utd's Cristiano Ronaldo wiped out by Brentford's Aaron Hickey in viral clip

Man Utd's Ronaldo grimaces.

Cristiano Ronaldo must have wondered what on earth he was watching as Manchester United imploded in their 4-0 defeat to Brentford.

Everyone knew that the Red Devils were in a tough spot, but even those predicting Erik ten Hag’s men to lose yet again could hardly have foreseen Brentford scoring four goals in the first 35 minutes.

Josh Dasilva got the party started when his speculative effort found its way through David de Gea, before some truly miserable passing out from the back by United allowed Mathias Jensen to bag a goal of his own.

Ben Mee then poached his first goal for the Bees as United were bullied from a corner, before Bryan Mbeumo hammered the final nail in the coffin by crowning a fabulous Brentford counterattack.

All in all, it made for one of United’s most humiliating defeats of the entire Premier League era and a result that must surely encourage Ronaldo to push even harder to leave the club before Deadline Day.

Reports have been abound that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wants out of Old Trafford this summer in the absence of Champions League football, but a divorce between club and player has yet to be agreed.

With the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich purportedly turning up their nose at the prospect of signing Ronaldo, it seems likely now that he could well remain at the club.

Man Utd’s misery at Brentford

As such, he might have to get used to even more dire performances from the United players around him with the upcoming Liverpool clash suggesting that things might get worse before they get better.

And even an all-time legend like Ronaldo will struggle to prevent that all by myself because despite looking like one of United’s best performers at the Brentford Community Stadium, he was ultimately still confined to the graveyard shift chasing half-chances in the final third.

However, even on the odd occasion where Ronaldo did battle his way to a good position, Brentford were sure not to give the iconic goalscorer a square-inch of space as they quickly smothered him.

Hickey wipes out Ronaldo

Or wiped him out, should we say, if your name is Aaron Hickey because the amusing moment where the Bees’ new signing gave Ronaldo a refresher course in Premier League football quickly went viral this weekend.

In the final few seconds of United’s miserable first-half, Ronaldo managed to battle his way to a rare touch of the ball when Hickey came flying in for a shoulder-to-shoulder clash that only had one winner.

To say that ‘CR7’ was flattened would be the mother of all understatements, so be sure to check out the moment that Hickey showed the United star what he’s all about down below:

“I came in like a wrecking ball…”

Goodness me, the last thing you need after 45 minutes of watching your own defence collapse in on itself by conceding four goals is to get absolutely flattened by five foot and eight inches of 20-year-old Scotsman.

Ronaldo: Man Utd’s MOTM

The only saving grace is that Ronaldo did win a free-kick for his troubles, but it just about summed up United’s half when Christian Eriksen proceeded to merely float it into the hands of David Raya.

Overall, Ronaldo emerged from his brush with Brentford with a SofaScore rating of 7.2 that shouldn’t be sniffed at under the circumstances, completing 96% of his passes and registering two shots on target.

In fact, there’s good reason to think that Ronaldo was the closest thing that United came to a Man of the Match on a dreadful night that will go down in Premier League history.

And no doubt Hickey will enjoy telling his mates about the time he bulldozed a United legend who could well be waving goodbye to the club in the days and weeks to come.
