Man Utd: 'Deal needs to be done quickly' for £15m star at Old Trafford

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag watches on

Manchester United have been boosted in their attempts to lure Adrien Rabiot to Old Trafford as Juventus ‘need the deal done quickly’, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have made a nightmare start to the new season, with an opening day defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion being followed up with a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford on Saturday.

What’s the latest news involving Rabiot?

Manchester United appear to have moved a step closer to getting a deal over the line as it is understood that director John Murtough held a positive meeting with Rabiot’s agent and mother Veronique after travelling to Turin before the weekend.

Although a salary is still being negotiated behind closed doors, The Guardian have revealed that an initial £15million fee has been agreed between the Red Devils and Juventus.

The Italian giants are open to sanctioning the central midfielder’s departure ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline as he has entered the final 12 months of his £175,000-per-week contract.

Juventus have prioritised signing Paris Saint-Germain star Leandro Paredes and have already come to an agreement over personal terms, but the Argentinian will reportedly only complete the switch after Rabiot leaves the Allianz Stadium.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag opted to make a move for Rabiot after it became clear that Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is not interested in heading to Old Trafford.

What has Dean Jones said about Rabiot?

Jones believes that Juventus are desperate to offload Rabiot, boosting Manchester United’s hopes of getting the deal over the line.

The transfer insider understands that the Frenchman is no longer in Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri’s plans.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It is getting there. Juve also need this deal done quickly, like Manchester United do, because they need space to open up so that they can sign Paredes.

“It’s in their benefit too, for Rabiot to sort this out. They have no plans for him.”

Why is Rabiot of interest to Manchester United?

Ten Hag made a point of emphasising that ‘it is clear we need players’ after the crushing defeat at Brentford, so he is in the market for fresh faces.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville reacted to the latest setback by suggesting his former employers are ‘struggling badly’, but Rabiot could play a pivotal role in picking the Red Devils up off the canvas.

The 27-year-old has won three pieces of silverware during his time on Juventus’ books, having already enjoyed a trophy-laden spell in his homeland, so it is clear that he would bring a winning mentality to Old Trafford.

Although he has no Premier League experience, the 29-cap France international has featured in Serie A, Ligue 1 and racked up 55 Champions League appearances.
