Manchester United slumped to one of their worst ever Premier League defeats on Saturday. However, what was most worrying of all about the 4-0 capitulation at Brentford was the fact that, deep down, it didn't actually feel that surprising.Considering that United are the most decorated club in Premier League history by miles upon miles, you would think that a humiliating loss of that nature would leave everybody wondering whether or not the world was ending.

Brentford 4-0 Man Utd

And while, don't get it twisted, fans were still pretty shocked as the first 35 minutes unfurled at the Brentford Community Stadium, it nevertheless felt in character for United amid their current crisis.

As Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo shovelled more and more misery upon the Red Devils with their goals in London, the damning takeaway was that it felt like more of the same for United.

This is, after all, a side which has lost 4-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion, 5-0 to Liverpool, 6-1 to Tottenham Hotspur and 4-1 to both Watford and Manchester City over the last few years alone.

And poor Erik ten Hag has been unable to kick-start the turnaround that was tipped for his era as he's opened up United's season with two defeats in winnable games to leave them rock bottom of the table.

The situation is so dire that some fans are even starting to predict that United will lose in embarrassing style before it even happens, safe in the knowledge that it's simply assured to happen every now and again.

Man City fan's prediction comes true

In fact, one Manchester City supporter not only saw another United horror show coming, but even forecasted the exact result that would send them returning to Old Trafford with their tail between their legs.

That's because content creator and City fan Lawrence Bury remarkably predicted the Red Devils to lose 4-0 to Brentford during an appearance on the Pitch Side podcast with Theo Baker and Oliver Fletcher.

As the trio went through their Premier League predictions for the weekend, 'Buvey' emphatically replied when asked for his thoughts on the United game: "Oh, Brentford 4-0.

"I'm not even joking, I'm not even joking. Do you know what? I've been doing this a long, long time, these videos, I'm not even joking."

In fact, Bury was feeling so confident about the impending scoreline that he followed it up with a tweet remarking: "Brentford 4-0 Man Utd. Trust me," which obviously went viral as soon as he was proven right.

Sums up the state of Man Utd

Now if that's not an indictment of the situation that United find themselves in right now, then we don't know what is.

Besides, let's pause for a second and imagine the madness had anybody with a single brain cell predicted United to get pumped 4-0 by a team in just their second Premier League season just a few years ago and for it to feel, well, anything short of absolutely barmy.

While, yes, it still got a laugh out of the podcast presenters, the fact that it was so swiftly made to look like a pretty sensible and justified opinion pretty much sums up the state of United in August 2022.

If anything, it will just persuade more fans and content creators to predict further wild results for Ten Hag's men going forward and only time will whether or not the Red Devils can stop those forecasts from coming true.

Frankly, who knows at this point.
