Mikel Arteta is building something special at Arsenal.
The writing was on the wall for great swathes of last season with many a Gooner falling in love with the club all over again despite the race for Champions League football eventually unravelling.
However, in many ways it was besides the point anyway, because finishing fifth has a lot more bells and whistles on it when achieved in an exciting, forward-thinking manner that creates a promising vision for the future.
Exciting times at Arsenal
At the end of the day, battling it out with Tottenham Hotspur until the final day of the season was still a big step in the right direction on the back of two years marooned down in eighth place.
All that, and Arteta achieved it with one of the most youthful squads in Europe, investing faith in the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli to rekindle the old romanticism of Arsenal.
And what’s important is that the progress seems to keep rising and rising because there’s justified optimism around Emirates Stadium right now that Arsenal are on course for an even better season in 2022/23.
The Gunners looked like a force to be reckoned with in pre-season as the inspired signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, as well as the long-awaited return of William Saliba, gave them a real boost.
Jesus & Arsenal ARE TOP CLASS! Arsenal 4-2 Leicester City Highlights & Reaction (Football Terrace)
Great start to 2022/23
It wasn’t a false dawn either because the north London club have transferred that summer promise into the season proper, opening up 2022/23 with wins over Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
And although two victories against mid-table opposition might not set the world alight, it’s also the way in which Arsenal secured the six points that has inspired optimism with goals, gusto and guile aplenty.
So much so, in fact, that the atmosphere during Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Leicester on Saturday was truly something to behold as the fans savoured Jesus’ brace and goals from Granit Xhaka and Martinelli.
Incredible atmosphere at the Emirates
Arsenal’s home ground is regularly maligned for its ambience, or lack thereof, with both rival fans and Gooners alike opining that things just haven’t been the same since the club moved away from Highbury.
However, while there is still a great deal of truth to that narrative, you certainly couldn’t level that accusation against the Emirates when fans were basking in the Leicester triumph this weekend.
That’s because multiple videos of Arsenal fans living their best life in stoppage time have attracted big numbers across social media, highlighting the positive mood around the club right now.
So, be sure to get a clearer indication than ever of the optimism swirling around the Arteta project by checking out what could well be the greatest atmosphere that the Emirates has ever seen down below:
Absolutely insane atmosphere at the Emirates today. Proud of everyone who contributed to the energy. I have not felt more buzz, excitement and joy being an Arsenal fan more than now. COYG! 🔴⚪ from Gunners
Absolute scenes. It must have been class to be in the stands when that was going down.
The Emirates’ best atmosphere?
Sure, it’s not Anfield belting out ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, it’s not the ‘Yellow Wall’ bouncing at Borussia Dortmund and it’s certainly not a pyro party straight out of the Belgrade derby, but when have you honestly seen the Emirates like that?
There have been wild reactions to late winners such as Thierry Henry’s against Manchester United in 2007 or Danny Welbeck’s over Leicester in 2016, but this is an altogether different scenario.
When the cameras cut to those Arsenal fans having the time of their life, they weren’t celebrating a dramatic goal, they were so buoyed by what they’d seen before them that the mere positivity of it all had them bouncing up and down in joy.
And if that’s not a damn good sign that what Arteta is building at the club is nothing short of darn exciting, then we don’t know what is.
