We're only two weekends into the new Premier League season, but Brentford putting four goals past Manchester United in the space of 25 first-half minutes will take some beating when it comes to the craziest occurrences of the campaign.

United's shellshocked players looked on in disbelief as Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo each helped themselves to a goal at a bouncing Brentford Community Stadium.

News of the ease with which the Bees were dealing with the 13-time Premier League champions surprised many as the match unfolded, including a gathering of Arsenal fans who were being interviewed outside the Emirates Stadium following their 4-2 win over Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

When Mee rose above Lisandro Martinez to make it 3-0 to Brentford on the half-hour mark, Arsenal Fan TV founder Robbie Lyle chose to interrupt his own interview to bring news of the astonishing scoreline to the supporters around him.

"Wait a minute. Breaking news, breaking news... Brentford 3 Manchester United 0," the presenter declares while beaming from ear to ear.

"How long is gone in that game?" Lyle asks with a tone of disbelief in his voice.

The score is met with cheers from nearby Gunners supporters, but it's almost as though they don't fully trust the information they've just been given.

The AFTV crew had moved on to chat with another supporter when Mbeumo made it 4-0 five minutes later - and this time there's absolutely no doubt over the level of embarrassment United are facing.

As those in the background begin to hold up four fingers in celebration, the fan being interviewed at the time simply can't believe the sheer madness that is unfolding on the other side of the capital.

Open-mouthed and with hands on his head, this man's face is an absolute picture - and will surely live on in the form of a meme for years to come.

Once the score has finally sunk in, the supporter joins in a full-throated chorus of "United get battered everywhere they go" with his fellow Arsenal fans.

As delighted as the Gunners' faithful were with their triumph over the Foxes, this group seemed equally thrilled by United's plight.

There's no getting away from how poor the Red Devils were on Saturday evening. The club is an utter shambles right at present.

It's worth remembering that Arsenal's start to the 2021/22 season was similarly poor, conceding nine goals without reply in their first three games, before ultimately bouncing back to secure a Europa League qualifying berth.
