Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp doesn't have a recurring injury and is admired by Antonio Conte, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Skipp missed the second half of last season through injury and is yet to feature in Spurs' opening two Premier League matches following another setback.

What's the latest news involving Skipp?

Having returned from a successful loan spell at Norwich in the 2020-2021 season, Skipp quickly made himself a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte last term.

He ended up making 28 appearances in his breakout campaign in the first-team, only for an injury to cut his season short.

Skipp was a second half substitute in a defeat at Chelsea on 23 January but wouldn't play again from then on in.

Despite undergoing surgery during the off-season, the 22-year-old, who recently signed a new £80,000 per-week contract with his boyhood club, was back in time for pre-season.

But the midfielder's rotten luck continued ahead of the new campaign after he suffered a hairline fracture in his heel just two weeks before the return of competitive action.

Skipp has now missed Spurs' last 22 games in all competitions, but Bridge doesn't believe his latest injury is a concern for Conte.

What did Bridge say about Skipp?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It was a heavy gash, and the injury last time was a very difficult injury to sort out and this was a very different body part, we all bleed the same.

"It's not a recurring groin injury, that's the point I'm trying to make, he's been unlucky. But Antonio Conte is clearly a fan of this player and he's homegrown and Spurs need homegrown players.

"There's a clear hope that this is unlucky, and he ends up featuring for the rest of the season when he is back."

When could Skipp return?

Football.London revealed that Skipp was likely to miss the first 'two to three weeks' of the season, which would see him sidelined for the home games against Southampton and Wolves and trip to Chelsea.

But ahead of the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, Conte admitted that the midfielder might not return as quickly as first thought, which could see him miss more Premier League matches.

"Skipp needs a couple of weeks before being available," he said when asked for an update on Skipp's condition on Friday.

Another couple of weeks could now see Skipp sit out the games with Nottingham Forest, West Ham and even Fulham at the beginning of September.
