Manchester United will secure an 'upgrade' on their current midfield options if Adrien Rabiot joins from Juventus, but the Frenchman could cause 'some issues' at Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils are currently bottom of the Premier League following a disastrous start to the campaign, resulting in boss Erik ten Hag desperately seeking fresh faces ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What's the latest news involving Rabiot?

Manchester United are set to hold further talks with Rabiot's agent and mother Veronique today, with wage demands remaining the key stumbling block in getting a deal over the line.

It comes after Red Devils director John Murtough held a positive meeting with the 27-year-old's representatives after travelling to Turin before the weekend.

Manchester United have been given permission to discuss personal terms after an initial £15million fee was agreed with Juventus last week.

The Italian side are open to sanctioning the former Paris Saint-Germain man's departure as he has entered the final 12 months of his £175,000-per-week contract.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that all parties are 'really confident' that Rabiot will swap Juventus for Old Trafford ahead of the deadline.

What has Dean Jones said about Rabiot?

Jones believes Rabiot will head to the top of the pecking order at the heart of Manchester United's midfield if his move is rubber-stamped.

However, the transfer insider has fears over the 29-cap France international's personality and, as a result, has warned that he could create some difficult situations for ten Hag.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "As a player, I think he'll be an upgrade on what Manchester United have got, but there are other things United have to consider here.

"We can't overlook the flaws in his personality. PSG are willing to put up with a lot, but even they didn't indulge in him.

"I'd say there could be some issues along the way here but, ultimately, Manchester United just want a better midfield player right now. In fairness, he probably is that."

Why is Rabiot among ten Hag's midfield targets?

Ten Hag's need to recruit fresh faces was emphasised during Manchester United's 4-0 hammering at Brentford on Saturday.

In his post-match interview, the Dutchman admitted ‘it is clear we need players’ and, with time running out before the deadline, Rabiot could be a shrewd investment.

Having faced difficulties in signing Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, Rabiot has moved up ten Hag's list of targets and it seems he will not face similar challenges in getting this deal completed.

The Juventus star has enjoyed a trophy-laden career and could go a long way towards stabilising Manchester United's midfield.
