Cristiano Ronaldo's time at Manchester United is careering towards an ugly end.

The Portuguese superstar made no secret of his desire to leave the club during the summer but, having found no suitors willing to take him on, has had to stick around at Old Trafford.

However, after a quite miserable start to the season that sees United sitting rock-bottom of the Premier League, Ronaldo's angst with the club is only growing.

He's clearly incredibly disenchanted with what is going on at his beloved United, as discontent among the fans continues to mount to alarming levels.

The on-field performances aren't helping either, as an already upset fan base is being subjected to some pretty underwhelming football - to put it lightly.

It does seem like it could be a two way street however, with reports emerging that United are considering terminating Ronaldo's contract if he doesn't buck up and get on board with project Erik ten Hag.

You have to imagine that the heightened scrutiny the Ronaldo saga brings with it is a side-show that Ten Hag simply doesn't want as he looks to kick-start his already stuttering campaign.

Now, highlights of Ronaldo's individual performance in the calamitous 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Brentford are doing the rounds and it does not make for pretty viewing.

One fan video in particular pulls absolutely no punches as it ruthlessly mocks the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Brutal - you can't help but feel that it's all a bit harsh.

It's worth remembering that Ronaldo is, and always will be, one of the greatest players to have ever lived and one bad performance hardly makes him a spent force.

He carried United for large swathes of the last season and was the focal point of the few happy memories to come from that campaign.

However, it is clear to see that he is desperately unhappy with the state of affairs at Old Trafford, highlighted by the fact that he refused to go over and clap the fans following the Brentford humbling.

Ronaldo has always been the consummate professional and so you can imagine that any below-par performances will really sting.

The week ahead could prove to be absolutely pivotal in Ronaldo's future at the club with plenty of updates expected to be slapped across global headlines.
