The Eagles have been relatively quiet in the market this summer but may make further additions to Patrick Vieira’s first-team squad before the window shuts on September 1.
What is the latest news involving Palace?
Twelve months ago, Vieira oversaw a significant rebuild of Palace’s playing squad after he took over the reins from former manager Roy Hodgson.
Several ageing campaigners such as Gary Cahill, James McCarthy and Andros Townsend were replaced by younger stars as the south London outfit attempted to change their approach.
The likes of Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen proved to be an instant success, helping Palace finish in 12th position in the Premier League standings while also reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
Cheick Doucoure, Chris Richards, Sam Johnstone and Michael Ebiowei have all been brought into Selhurst Park this time around and could be joined by supplementary acquisitions imminently.
What has Barclay said about Palace?
Palace have been linked to Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Barclay believes that their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong makes the speculation surround his future interesting.
In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Loftus-Cheek, I don’t know specifically on him, but I know that Palace are sort of waiting to see what happens in the loan market.
“I think there’s a feeling that there could be some good options come up towards the end of the window. Chelsea is very interesting. If they do sign Frenkie de Jong in midfield, what knock-on effect is that going to have in terms of game time for certain players?
“So, I wouldn’t be surprised if they sort of waited to the end of the window to bring in a loan, but we’ll wait and see on that.”
Who could Crystal Palace sign?
As previously mentioned, Palace have been credited with an interest in Loftus-Cheek, who enjoyed an extremely fruitful spell at the club throughout 2017/18.
A recent report from The Sun has claimed that Vieira’s charges are consequently set to launch a ‘shock move’ for the England international after becoming frustrated in their attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White.
Loftus-Cheek made 40 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea last time out, registering six goal contributions along the way.
If De Jong does arrive at Stamford Bridge, though, Loftus-Cheek could be one of the players who suffers as a result, potentially opening the door to his Palace return.
