Drew McIntyre has sustained a back injury and has been pulled from Live Events, just weeks before WWE Clash at the Castle.

After beating Sheamus on the July 29 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Drew McIntyre earned a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

It was announced shortly after that at Clash at the Castle, WWE's first UK Premium Live Event since 1992, Drew will challenge Roman Reigns for the title.

However, with the match due to take place in just over two weeks, reports have emerged indicating that Drew is injured.

Fightful Select is reporting that McIntyre is dealing with a back injury at the moment, and was taken off Live Events at the weekend to recover (via WrestleTalk).

Drew McIntyre was pulled from the road for this weekend's shows, Fightful Select can confirm. McIntyre has been dealing with a rough back injury and has needed additional time to rest.

In what will come as good news to fans of the former WWE Champion, Fightful does note that Drew is not expected to undergo surgery for the issue.

However, Drew is being told that he "simply needs to rest it up", which is slightly difficult considering he's wrestling multiple times each week.

We're told that surgery isn't expected, and he simply needs to rest it up, which is easier said that done considering the nature of being a pro wrestler.

In what is also undeniably good news, the report explains that McIntyre is still expected to wrestle Roman at Clash at the Castle, a match that has been internally planned and scheduled for several months.

Drew campaigned hard for WWE to put on a major pay-per-view in the UK all throughout the pandemic, so it's tremendous news to hear that injury won't rule him out of the show's main event.

However, based on the reports that Drew needs to "rest", some have speculated that he could be forced to take some time off TV following Clash at the Castle next month.

Clash at the Castle takes place in Cardiff, Wales at the Principality Stadium on Saturday, September 3, and you watch the show live on Peacock and the WWE Network.
