Jose Mourinho really has been around the block.

From his days in charge of Porto, to revolutionising the Premier League and conquering La Liga and Europe, there can't be much the Portuguese maestro hasn't seen.

He's won just about everything there is to win in the club game and will certainly go down as one of the greatest managers to have graced a sideline.

He learned his trade under the tutelage of one of the greats in Sir Bobby Robson before taking his career solo and hitting some stratospheric heights.

So, with a sparkling CV that extends across multiple pages, you can be sure that when Jose speaks, people sit up and take notice.

That was exactly the case during a 2019 interview for LiveScore when Mourinho emphatically named the best footballer he had ever seen.

Jose snubbed both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, instead naming Brazil's 'El Fenomeno', Ronaldo Nazario.

"Ronaldo, El Fenomeno. Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi have had longer careers, they have remained at the top every day for 15 years.

"However, if we are talking strictly about talent and skill, nobody surpasses Ronaldo [Nazario]. When he was at Barcelona with Bobby Robson, I realised that he was the best player I'd ever seen take to the pitch.

"Injuries killed a career that could have been even more incredible, but the talent that that 19-year-old boy had was something incredible."

The interviewer then presses Jose one more time and once again, the now Roma boss had no doubts.

Fascinating - Ronaldo's career will forever remain as one of the greatest 'what if' stories of modern football.

Even in amongst some absolutely awful injuries, the Brazilian managed to regularly stun fans and oppositions alike with what he was capable of with a ball at his feet.

He won the Ballon d'Or twice and also picked up a brace of World Cup winners' medals as well.

Sadly, his individual numbers will never live up to those of Messi and Ronaldo's but, perhaps a glowing endorsement from one of the greatest minds in football is more than enough to prove just what a talent he was.

We will never know what heights he might have achieved but we still have a glut of remarkable memories of his time at the top of the game.
