Football Manager 2023 is set to come out later this year, but will the latest iteration of the massively popular management sim have microtransactions in-game?

The game has yet to be formally announced but the franchise has continually followed an annual release schedule throughout its lifespan.

FM23 is likely to come out towards the end of 2022, with the beta coming out two weeks before the formal release date.

There are some questions over new features that are set to be announced in due course but will the game have an in-game currency in order to buy in-game items?

There has been a continuing trend of microtransactions being added into games, notably FIFA, where players can use real money to purchase FIFA Points and buy packs, that feature players and other in-game items, including contracts, position modifiers and stadiums, in addition to those actual footballers.

Will Football Manager 2023 have microtransactions?

As it stands, we’ve had no confirmation but we feel confident in saying that Football Manager 2023 will be microtransaction free.

FM22 did not have any microtransactions or in-game currency, with players being given a fully-fledged experience from the first moment they boot up the game.

There is, of course, the option to spend real money on the in-game editor, which allows you to make changes to the database while you're playing it by clicking on the pencil next to the FM logo, but that is an add-on that is not necessarily required.

Last year, it cost just under £6, and you can buy it on Steam.

The pre-game editor, which allows you to make edits to the database before loading the game up, comes bundled with the purchase of FM, and can be downloaded separately. You simply need to load up the Tools menu within Steam to be able to access it.

You can then make any number of edits you like, such as adding new players into teams, adding new clubs into leagues, and making real-life managerial changes to the database.

There aren’t many situations in which you would need to buy in-game items within FM23, so we cannot see there being a need to add any kind of currency into the game.

We’ll let you know if there are any changes here, and we’ll also update you when new features are announced.
