Leeds United have always wanted to strengthen at left-back this summer and have previously targeted Anderlecht youngster Sergio Gomez, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Jesse Marsch has overseen a hectic few months of business at Elland Road but will be looking to add to his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest on the hunt for a left-back?

Gomez has been targeted by Manchester City this summer as a potential replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko in the squad, according to MailOnline.

The outlet claims that an £11 million deal is proceeding although there remains a possibility that the reigning Premier League champions will loan him out again soon after. However, Sky Sports report that the loan will likely see him move to a different City Group club.

Earlier this summer, it was reported by Leeds Live that Gomez had been targeted at the end of last season and may move for him again with Junior Firpo side-lined through injury.

Philadelphia Union defender Kai Wagner has been linked, via TEAMtalk, to Elland Road while PSV’s Philipp Max has also been targeted.

What has Jones said on the club’s hunt for a left-back?

Jones understands that reinforcements in the position have been on the club’s radar for the entire summer but they are yet to find the perfect option.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “I was told it was always a spot that they wanted to strengthen if they could. They'd looked at various options such as Sergio Gomez.”

Have Leeds had a good summer?

It has been a whirlwind of a few months for Marsch and his side in West Yorkshire with significant changes on the pitch.

Two huge departures took place, with Kalvin Phillips joining Manchester City and Raphinha moving to Barcelona, leaving some huge boots to fill.

Meanwhile, seven new signings have been made including the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams, with over £95 million splashed.

Nevertheless, it is clear that they need added bodies, particularly at left-back, before the window closes. Firpo showed last season he is not up to the standard needed in the Premier League and centre-back Pascal Struijk has been playing as as a full-back so far.

It looks like they may miss out on Gomez so a new target needs to be identified sharpish at Elland Road.
