Gunther has been dubbed by fans as one of the WWE Superstars who will likely benefit most from Vince McMahon's retirement. As evidenced by his record-breaking NXT UK Championship run and how he was handled in NXT, it's pretty clear that Triple H is a big fan of Gunther. The man formerly known as WALTER was brought up to the main roster in April 2022, and to WWE's credit, he's been booked pretty well since then.Working under Vince McMahon, Gunther became the Intercontinental Champion, and the Austrian wasn't actually ever booked to be beaten on a show booked by the ex-WWE CEO.However, a report has emerged indicating that after his appearance on the July 4 episode of Monday Night Raw, McMahon had started to draw up plans for the "burial" of Gunther.Gunther is the reigning Intercontinental ChampionGunther is the reigning Intercontinental ChampionWrestleVotes is reporting that Vince really didn't like Gunther's showing in his Raw segment with R-Truth last month, and was seemingly going to punish the 34-year-old as a result. However, Vince would retire from WWE just two weeks later, meaning he wasn't able to actually get his planned "burial" of Gunther going.

What makes this report interesting is that prior to his July 4 showing, all reports indicated that Vince was actually a big fan of Gunther, but this suggests that the one segment made the 76-year-old "sour" on him.

Gunther has been booked like a star under Triple H show far, most recently beating Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of last week's SmackDown in one of the best WWE TV matches of the year.

It's clear that, at least in the eyes of Gunther, Vince was removed from his creative roles at exactly the right time, as his future would be looking very different if the former Chairman was still running things.

Given his ties to the UK, it's widely expected that Triple H is going to book Gunther on the card for Clash at the Castle, the first time he's been on a WWE Premium Live Event since his call-up earlier this year.

This will also be the first time that the Intercontinental Championship has been booked at a WWE pay-per-view since April 2021.

As for his opponents, the common feeling amongst fans is that WWE is going to bok Gunther v Sheamus in a title match, which given the pair's hard-hitting style, is a pretty mouth-watering prospect.
