West Ham United are locked in ongoing negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain as the Hammers are eager to welcome Thilo Kehrer to the London Stadium, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The east Londoners have endured an underwhelming start to the season, having suffered back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, and boss David Moyes has until September 1 to bolster his squad.

What's the latest news involving Kehrer?

According to Dharmesh Sheth, West Ham are in advanced talks with PSG over the signing of Kehrer.

The Sky Sports reporter suggests the structure of the deal - worth £10.1million plus add-ons - is being finalised for the 20-cap Germany international.

It comes after West Ham responded with an improved bid having seen their initial proposal turned down by the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

Ahead of the Hammers' narrow defeat to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest at the weekend, Moyes confirmed that talks over Kehrer are ‘progressing’.

The east Londoners' hopes of striking a deal appear to have improved further as Romano has revealed that PSG are keen to offload the central defender this week.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Kehrer?

Romano understands that West Ham are in negotiations with PSG and not giving up in their pursuit of Kehrer.

Although he is aware that the French giants are seeking £16.8million and the Hammers are not willing to reach that figure, the transfer guru believes discussions are still being held as both clubs are attempting to find a compromise.

In an interview held today, Romano told GIVEMESPORT: "They are in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain.

"PSG want to sell him as soon as possible. They always wanted around €20million for Kehrer. West Ham are offering less than this, but there is a negotiation ongoing."

Why is Kehrer of interest to West Ham?

West Ham are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements as Ben Johnson, a full-back by trade, has had to fill in as an emergency centre-half for both of the Hammers' opening two matches of the season.

Moyes had already bolstered his options with the £30million addition of Nayef Aguerd in June, but a pre-season injury forced him to undergo surgery and the Moroccan remains sidelined.

With Angelo Ogbonna still on his way back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and Craig Dawson recovering from a thigh problem, Kurt Zouma has been West Ham's only available central defender during the early stages of the campaign.

If Kehrer were to join the east Londoners, he would offer bags of experience thanks to chalking up 128 appearances for PSG.

The 25-year-old has also entered the final 12 months of his £78,000-per-week contract in the French capital, increasing the chances of a cut-price deal being a possibility.
