Alvin Kamara: Adam Schefter drops positive update on Saints RB's possible suspension

Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter has been speaking about New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara and a possible suspension that could be coming his way.

Alvin Kamara over the past few years since he has entered the NFL has become arguably one of the better dual-threat running backs on the planet. Having been taken in the 3rd round of the draft back in 2017 by the New Orleans Saints – a steal when you consider the stats that are coming next – he has proved himself incredibly capable both through the air and on the ground.

In his five seasons so far, he has racked up 4,238 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns in the regular season whilst also managing to grab 3,263 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns, made even more impressive when you consider that, when you add sharing running back duties with Mark Ingram during his early career and injures have restricted him to just 45 starts.

He has arguably become just as big a part of the offense as wide receiver Michael Thomas, and with the Saints still on the search for their next franchise quarterback, with the likes of Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton and Ian Book on the roster, he can be a very effective weapon in helping whoever the quarterback is to be a success.

But things aren’t looking good for him and the Saints as a result of what he did during the offseason.

What’s the situation?

Kamara was involved in an incident during Pro Bowl weekend back in February that involved a physical altercation with someone at the Cromwell Casino. As per CBS42, Darnell Greene, the victim in the incident:

“Was leaving the nightclub and headed towards the elevators, where he approached a large group of people waiting. He then briefly spoke to one of the group members while waiting. A man, later identified as Kamara, put his hand on Greene’s chest to stop him from coming in. Greene then tried to push Kamara’s hand off his chest, but was then shoved, causing him to stumble back.

“His statement then shared that after he fell, he was kicked by multiple people and eventually fell unconscious.”

But whilst the incident and charges against Kamara happened in February, there is still no news as to what possible suspension could be coming the running back’s way, and Adam Schefter explained why.

What’s he said?

Speaking on ESPN as part of a Fantasy Football debate, Schefter explained what was happening with Kamara and that because the league has to wait for the legal side to be dealt with first before handing down a suspension, it could be some time before we hear anything definitive:

This could be seen as a bit of a blessing for the Saints, because if Schefter’s assessment is right and the legal side of proceedings is pushed so far that it means any possible suspension will kick in for 2023, that gives them so much extra time to prepare for his time away from the team, whether that means focusing on the draft, or bringing someone in during free agency.
