After two rounds of Premier League matches, Liverpool only have two points on the board.

Jurgen Klopp's side were held to a 2-2 draw away at Fulham on the opening weekend of the 2022/23 season and had to rescue a point against Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

Liverpool fell 1-0 behind at Anfield when Wilfried Zaha finished off a superb counterattack in the first half and things got worse shortly after the break.

Mega-money signing Darwin Nunez was deservedly shown a straight red card for a reckless headbutt on Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen.

It was a true moment of madness from the Uruguayan and the only solace for him was that Luis Diaz equalised in stunning fashion just minutes later.

Nunez will know better than anyone that he messed up badly, especially as Liverpool would more than likely have gone on to win at Anfield if he had remained on the pitch.

To make matters worse for the young striker, the red card incident was analysed in-depth by Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville in the Sky Sports studio after the game.

And the work from the Premier League legends on the touch screen further highlighted just how stupid Nunez's action were on his first competitive start for Liverpool.

What on earth was Nunez thinking?!

As Neville pointed out, he was the one demanding the referee's attention and seconds after getting it, he planted his forehead into Andersen's nose.

"I cannot believe how he thinks he's going to get away with that," Carragher said during the analysis and that assessment sums up the incident perfectly.

Nunez is now suspended for Liverpool's next three matches and will miss the trip to Manchester United next Monday, which is a big blow for Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds boss was asked about the red card in his post-match interview with Sky Sports and he agreed that Nunez had to be dismissed from the field of play.

“That’s, of course, a red card. He was provoked all the time, but that’s not how he should behave,” Klopp said.

When asked whether he would punish Nunez by informing him of how much he let the team down, Klopp added: “Look, he knows that now himself.

“I will talk to him. It makes no sense to now talk too much in public. It’s not the reaction you want to see.”
