Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag watches on

Manchester United could have the opportunity to sign Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech this summer, believes Fabrizio Romano.

The 29-year-old is a player Erik ten Hag is thought to want at Old Trafford, and Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that he is definitely on the market.

What is the latest news involving Ziyech?

According to journalist Nabil Djellit, Ziyech is a priority for Ten Hag right now as the Dutchman looks to make further signings before the transfer window closes.

And Djellit has claimed that United are ready to make a move for the Moroccan if Chelsea set a fair price.

Ziyech has not appeared in either of the Blues’ first two games of the new season, taking a seat on the bench in the 1-0 win against Everton and 2-2 draw with London rivals Tottenham.

He joined Chelsea back in 2020, arriving from Ten Hag’s Ajax side in a £33.3m deal, and has racked up 132 assists in his career.

What has Romano said about Ziyech to United?

Romano is refusing to rule out the possibility of Ziyech joining United due to his availability and Ten Hag being a fan, though he says there has been no movement yet.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer expert said: “Let’s see. Maybe there could be an opportunity because Ziyech is not part of the project at Chelsea. He’s one of the players they consider available on the market. So, as of now, there is nothing but the appreciation of the manager, but let’s see what happens.”

Why are Chelsea open to letting Ziyech go?

Ziyech does not look to be a part of Tuchel’s first-team plans after being snubbed for those two opening fixtures of the campaign.

Chelsea now, of course, have Raheem Sterling, who started alongside Mason Mount and Kai Havertz in attack for the encounters against Tottenham and Everton. That seems to be Tuchel’s preferred forward line at this moment in time.

Still, even before Sterling’s arrival, Ziyech was not a regular in the German’s first XI. Last season, he made just 14 starts in the Premier League.

A Stamford Bridge exit now looks to be in the former Morocco international’s best interest, and a move to United could make a lot of sense.

Ziyech would get to reunite with Ten Hag, who used him 100 times when they were both at Ajax, at one of the biggest clubs in the world. From his perspective, despite United’s struggles right now, it must sound like a very appealing proposition.
